2013 is the Time to Innovate

January 8th, 2013

2013. Wow, this is going to take some getting used to.

If I remember correctly, we were supposed to have flying cars and the ability to teleport by now. Sadly, to the dismay of Sci-Fi fanatics everywhere (myself included), that is not yet the case.

However, even though our personal transportation vehicles are still grounded, technology continues to make tremendous leaps each year. Here is a look at some of the technological innovations you should expect to become commonplace in 2013.

  • The Smart TV – This one is inevitable. While I do not believe that 2013 will be the year when everyone adopts it, the stage will certainly be set. More and more people every day are enjoying the benefits of an Internet-ready HDTV. Can you blame them?
  • 4G Internet – Between cellular services and national 4G Internet networks like Clearwire (for more information about Clearwire, visit http://www.clearwireinternet.com/what_is_clearwire_internet.html), 4G is now the standard for high-speed internet. If you don’t already have 4G for your home or mobile Internet, make 2013 the year you switch).
  • Smart Cars – No, they will not be able to fly, but cars are getting smarter. Tests for self-controlled automobiles are being rolled out in several cities, with impeccable results.

Whether it is one of these, or something else, just make sure 2013 is a year of innovation for you and your family.

Home Security Getting Mobile

December 12th, 2012

I would like to first apologize for not posting anything for the past few months. I got too caught up in other things, and I let this passion of mine fall by the wayside. You all know the feeling.

In the usual theme of highlighting technological innovations, we will look at how the world of home security is changing.

Have you ever forgotten to lock your house before leaving for errands, work, or vacation? The idea of their home and personal belongings being unprotected makes most people quiver.

Well, due to a technological innovation, it is possible to lock or unlock your home from a smartphone or tablet. By no means is this commonplace quite the opposite in fact. Most people have not yet transitioned to the kind of technology that can equip a home with virtual security control.

In my mind though, this will become pretty standard over the next decade. You will be able to set a home alarm, deactivate that alarm, turn off the lights, turn on the lights, and much more, all from a mobile device.

Obviously, this brings about significant risks as well. If the wrong person got a hold of your smartphone or tablet, they would have instant access to your home security system. However, I suppose that is no different than losing a key.

Again, this technology already exists, and many people already employ it regularly. However, in the coming years, keep an eye out for a tremendous increase in digital, mobile home security.
